Lock 1855 is named after the historic date when the bordeaux council declared the "first growths" (they are the best wines in the world) It was also a date they decalred what varieties could be used in Bordeaux to be declared a wine of origin Bordeaux, the five varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Napoleon was the one who brought these measures into place. He was a fond lover of wine and his legacy to yhe wine industry still stretches today. Merlot and Cabernet were chosen for this blend because we believe that this smooth character of the Merlot would be perfect with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon.
